Leading Alaska in a Global Movement

SOAK’s overall direction comes from a 25-member board of directors. A volunteer body, the board is comprised of legislators, corporate and community leaders, business professionals, educators, sports experts, caring citizens and Special Olympics athletes. Their role is to develop and monitor results of broad policies that govern implementation of organizational plans and purposes.

Special Olympics Alaska Board of Directors are asked to:

Place a high priority on attending board meetings every other month, and to come prepared to discuss and address the issues as set forth in the meeting agendas.

Assist in fund-raising activities, and agree to participate in at least one major project each year.

Serve on at least one committee or task force, and to attend respective meetings and actively participate in accomplishing specific objectives. Committee chairs are responsible for scheduling meetings, setting agendas, ensuring distribution of support materials, and reporting committee progress to the board.

Participate in an annual strategic planning review, board self-evaluation, and board development workshops and other educational programs designed to enhance board member skills.
